the twice the fun set* from curvy kate was gifted to me for fit modelling. all thoughts and opinions are my own and, as always, entirely uninfluenced.

as a D+ cup gal, one of my go-to brands is curvy kate*. with fun, affordable and fashion-forward styles that fit, support and lift, how can i complain? curvy kate’s latest collections have been really pushing things forwards for us fuller busted folk, aiming to provide us all with great solutions for everyday alongside the fresh, colourful ‘girls night’ collection. curvy kate’s AW20 range saw the release of a super exciting reversible triangle bralette, aptly named ‘twice the fun’*, which is utterly game changing when it comes to big bust comfort!

the look

curvy kate’s ‘twice the fun’ bralette* looks, at a glance, like a standard bralette similar to what you’d find on the high street. it wouldn’t be out of place in a store like topshop or h&m, thanks to the simple triangle cups in a plain fabric, lace trims and slim straps. the cups have a low plunging centre front, and the fully adjustable straps join at the apex and back band with a swan hook. as the name suggests, this bralette is reversible with a plain black side and a pale baby pink side that contrasts with the black lace trim.

being a pull-over style there is no hook and eye fastening at the back, and instead it is joined by a stitched seam. on the black side this isn’t very noticeable, but on the reverse pink side there is a visible black join. it’s finished neatly, though, so it doesn’t look all that unsightly and works with the black trims.

the coordinating thong also looks like it belongs on the high street, with a stretch lace waistband and simple triangle shaped front panel. the thing that sets this set apart from what you’d find in regular stores though is the finishing and quality. there are no loose threads or exposed, rough seams, and the fabrics don’t feel like they will lose their shape after a single wear. the thong is also reversible so you can coordinate or mix-and-match with the bralette.

the fit

i find the twice the fun bralette* fits quite true to size – but i do admit that the pull-over design is a little tricky to get on. having a larger cup size generally means your boobs are MUCH wider than your ribcage, and it can be a challenge to pull the band down over your head/shoulders/bust – especially if you have joint or mobility issues – but once it’s on it does feel secure and comfortable. this is dual cup-sized and starts from 30 back sizes so i went for 30F/FF which fits me well. i am normally a 28G/30FF and have full, firm breast tissue which puts me right at the top end of the 30F/FF size bracket. i could have sized up to a 30G/GG for extra coverage, but the actual volume in the cup feels spot on thanks to the stretchiness. i think that even if a 28 band were available, i wouldn’t be able to get it over my bust without there being some kind of clasp fastening.

speaking of the fabric, it’s a super soft microfibre with enough stretch to be comfortable but not so much that it completely lacks support. the cups are double layered – so a layer of black fabric and a layer of pink fabric, rather than one piece of fabric with two different colours on each side – which helps increase support for your bust, with a single dart to add some shape and structure to the cup. the cup shape comes far enough around to give decent coverage at the underarm, something i find a lot of triangle bras lack, so i don’t feel like i’m falling out of it.

twice the fun* is cut with a super low plunge neckline, which won’t work for all breast shapes. if you have very soft breast tissue or a centre-full shape then you may find that you spill out of this cut, and may fare better with curvy kate’s unwind bralette* which has a bit of extra coverage. however for a comfortable and cute lounge bra, it can’t be sniffed at – even if you’re just wearing it under your comfies for netflix and chill at least you’ll feel all kinds of cute! with perkier, firmer breast tissue i can wear this style comfortably all day, and easily pop out to the shops or do housework in it. it’s also becoming one of my favourites for working from home in!

the thong feels quite generously sized which i think is partly down to the cut of it and the super soft lace waistband – i have a size 8 which feels a little big, even on my post-lockdown hips – so bare that in mind!

the verdict

as i said earlier, curvy kate continue to blow it out of the water with their innovative fuller bust friendly designs. is this bralette perfect? no, but what bra ever is perfect? you’re all entirely unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. i do think this style could be improved with some form of clasp at the back – maybe not traditional hooks and eyes but perhaps a swan hook so it helps with the getting on-and-off without looking too ‘bra like’.

i love the fabric, the design and the idea – this is something that’s so fashion-forward and refreshing to see for D+ cup sizes. the real bonus for me with this design is the convertible, detachable straps. you can cross them at the back for added support, link them into a halterneck shape, or wear them as regular straps. because they’re fully detachable you can also flip them around so the slider doesn’t dig it when you have the colour reversed – something that i’ve noticed a lot of other reversible designs fail to take into consideration or avoid completely by having non-adjustable straps. it’s the little things!

coming in at a price point of £25, i can’t really complain about the twice the fun bralette. what do you think of this style? shop it on the curvy kate website here!*
