i’m super excited to bring this review to the lingerie princess. miss vivienne is an independent lingerie brand i’ve been following on instagram for a while, and i made it a mini resolution of mine at the end of 2019 to purchase a set – and so in february, i did! miss vivienne is a one-woman show, with vivienne herself creating all her gorgeous items in her own atelier in the scottish borders. ethically and sustainably made, vivienne truly offers a luxurious experience and i cannot praise her highly enough for her attention to detail and brilliant customer service. it took me a while to mull over the designs and which i wanted to try first, with my heart set on the gorgeous floral embroidery of the julia fabric. i know triangle bralettes don’t tend to work so well for my bust size, so i asked if there would be any chance of trying it in an alternative style. my preferred choice would have been an underwired bra, but of course the embroidery on this fabric meant the seams would’ve been a little chunky so i opted for the beautiful high neck bralette shape instead, along with a one-strap thong. not only did vivienne cater to my bespoke requests, but she also made sure to customise the sizing for me so i could get the best fit possible.
the look
the julia fabric is a sultry sheer black tulle, with stunning embroidery of florals and vines. the high neck shape is so flattering, and can be easily styled as outerwear peeking under a lower neckline or slash neck jumper. the coordinating thong is minimal in coverage, with the same beautiful embroidered tulle to the front. the set together is romantic and fashionable, it’s like something you’d see on a catwalk or in a high street store – but made with so much love and care. the finishings are neat and tidy, with gold hardware for the rings and sliders to keep it looking luxe. of course bear in mind that with this kind of fabric, each piece will look different to the next. i think that’s part of the beauty though – you don’t know exactly how it will look!
the fit
as i briefly mentioned in the intro, vivienne was careful to ensure a customised fit for my small back/big cup combo. bralettes are notoriously hard for me to get a good fit in due to my 28G bust, so she made an XL bralette with a 28″ back band. the fit is overall comfortable in the top, i could have done with a slightly firmer back band but that’s down to me being more of a 26 back size than a 28 and not thinking to mention it! the shoulder straps are fully adjustable and the back band fastens with hook and eye clasps. the support is of course lower than with a wired bra, but the fuller coverage fit is secure and holds my bust in place throughout the day.
in the back of my mind i was concerned that the embroidery would feel quite itchy against my skin as i had a cheap fast-fashion bodysuit in similar fabric that was unbearable to wear, but i needn’t have worried. the embroidery is neatly finished on the underside, making it comfortable on the skin. the underband also has a soft backed elastic that offers enough stretch and isn’t irritating.
as an 8-10 on the bottom i opted for the thong in a size small. this gives a nice amount of coverage for me in the front panel with fully adjustable side straps – so you can get that perfect fit! ideal for me, as i have quite wide hips compared to my waist and i can fluctuate in size a little bit, so that bit of flexibility makes it so easy to wear whenever i want. it sits at a nice height and is beyond comfortable.
the verdict
this set makes me feel so powerful and unstoppable when i wear it, and it did break my instagram notifications the first time i posted about it…! the high neck shape and one strap thong combo seemed to be so popular that vivienne added it to the julia range as permanent style options.
although a little bit pricier than my normal lingerie budget, there’s no denying that miss vivienne lingerie is worth every single penny. each item is lovingly handmade to order, and you can see the love and care that has gone into the crafting process as they’re so well finished with soft, plush elastics and tidy stitching.
vivienne’s kindness and customer care goes above and beyond, with no question too big or too small. i loved the whole experience from deciding on what to purchase to it being delivered. on that note – the packaging is so cute too! the items were sent in a cardboard box and beautifully wrapped in branded paper – no plastic in sight.
if you’re in the market for some luxury lingerie i cannot recommend this little brand more. support independent businesses where you can and i promise you, you will not be disappointed.
